His work is an attempt to initiate alternative relationships with language and with voice; relationships in which the emphasis is on an experience with language itself. Fenwick is an interdisciplinary artist, working with sound, video, typography, painting and performance. His work has been exhibited and screened in both Canada and the U.S., and he has spoken about his work at conferences and universities in both countries. In 2011 he attended the Struts Gallery residency in Sackville, New Brunswick, and will be a participant of Plug-In ICA's Summer Institute residency. Pastoralia, his art and dance music project with painter Mitchell Wiebe, has performed at various venues, most notably: as part of Halifax’s Nocturne Festival (with artist Graeme Patterson); at the after-party for the 2009 Sobey Art Awards; and in 2012 at the opening of Mass MoCA’s Oh Canada. He has received grants from Nova Scotia Culture and Heritage, The Manitoba Arts Council and the University of Manitoba. He has an undergraduate degree from NSCAD and is currently finishing an MFA Degree at the University of Manitoba, to be completed in 2013. He is also the author of two experimental typographic novels published by Fantagraphics, and has worked as a typographer and illustrator for The New York Times, The Globe and Mail, Drawn & Quarterly and many others. Pastoralia has performed at various bars and galleries, most notably: as part of Halifax’s Nocturne Festival (with artist Graeme Patterson); at the after-party for the 2009 Sobey Art Awards; and recently at the opening of Mass MoCA’s Oh Canada—the largest survey of contemporary Canadian art outside Canada.
